Another State Candidate Withdraws.

I Still another Tenth district candidate for a state office has Withdrawn Irom tne race for the nomi*nation. We refer to Frank Doran, l of LaPorte, who has been out after the Republican nomination I for state auditor. He now anJ nounces that he is out of the contest, on account of sickness in his family, which prevents him from making a canvass. This leaves only one candidate for a state office from this district, namely Judge Rabb, foi Appellate Judge. But did we fail to see wherein the Republicans of the district would need to grieve greatly if we had no candidates for state offices at all,

this trip. The district has been having its full share -of the state offices lately, and more too, and now has the Governor, the state statistician, and an appellate j udge. And we did have the secretary of state until he made a bad mess of it aud the governor kicked him out. And tnat reminds us again of the folly of, this excessive devotion to the home candidate idea, as was shown in the resolution adopted by the late Republican district con vention, seeking to bind the Republicans of the district to support the three candidates then after state offices in this district. In the first place, the right principle is to look f<>r the best man, rather than the homo man, and in the next place to consider whether the home district has not already got its share. Perhaps if the home Candidate idea, right or wrong, had not prevailed so strongly, those “good fellows” Storms and B'ietrick might never have been nominated, to the consequent shame and danger to the Republi can p irty of Indiana. Let ns seek tor the good men hereafter, rather than the “good fellows” and irrespective of what district they lappen to’ live in.
