Congressman Crumpacker's Letter.
"To the Chairman and Delegates 01 the RbpAblicau Congressional Convention./ F "Gentlemen From the nationjfi capital! semi:greeting aud good wil l to t he Republicans of the Tenth' congressional district assembled in Convention for the purpose of nominating a candidate for congress to tye. voted for at the next general Election. I l>eg to express my deep sense of gratitude to the Republicans of the district for the confi deuce they have reposed in me in having repeatedly selected me as their lepresentative in the national legislature.- It is an honor that is worthy of the ambition of any man in the district , and I would bean insensible ingrate, indeed, if I did not appreciate it most highly. “We are entering upon a cam paign of great consequence, Every political content in this country is an important one. It' the great questions invol veil in the elections in 1>96. 1900 and 1901 were worth the. sacrifices that were. n ade for them, it Lseqiially worth while now to labor for their preservation. "There are some’ manifestations of political unrest in various parts of the country which indicate a wholesome condition of the public mind. That vigilance which stirs things to the depths is absolutely necessary to secure the highest and best results from government. Party organizations are only agencies to promote a better condition of political aud social life anti the people have a right, nay more, it is their duty, to criticise and discipline parties if they fall short in 4heir promises and pretenses. 1 Ts I have any power of prophecy the Republican party will meet with success at the next geneial election. Business conditions throughout the country are most excellent. Last year the farmers were blessed with an abundant crop which is bring good prices. Ouf foreign trade is in splendid Condition and all of the industries of the country are active and labor finds ready f employment at good wages. When these conditions prevail’the ’party that can justly claim the greatest credit for them has a large] advantage in contests at the'polls. “There have been breaches of trust in private and public life of such a character’as to cause consid erable anxiety in the public mind, but our|administrations, both State and federal, have been vigilant, impartial and energetic in invest i gating frauds and punishing de linquents. “Party fharmony and cooperation are necessary to success. I have no doubt that the Republicans of the Tenth district and of the eni tire state of Indiana will feel it j their patriotic duty to stand to- ! gether in support of principles and ' policies that’are necessary to the - common welfare. “With best wishes for the health and happiness of each individual delegate to this convention, I am, most lespectfully,
