A New Prophet In Zion.
Wilbur G. Voliva, the new Deputy General Ouerseer, at Dowie’s Zion, made his first public appearance in that capacity Sunday and by all accounts, Dowie has in him found a worthy successor in wild fanaticism and fierce add overpowering eloquence. This Voliva, by the way, is no doubt known to quite a good many people here, and if we are not mistaken, has visited and preached here. A brother of his was formeily a pastor of the Baptist church here. After he went away his health failed and he also became a Dowieite and finally came back here for a short time as a Dowieite missionary. He than gave out that Dowie had
cured him of consumption. He was then very large and fat, but also very flabby, despite his loud and positive declarations that he was completely restored to health, and it was no great surprise to sensible people when, a few months later, his consumption carried him oft in spite of all of the prayers of Dowie and his saints, of great and small degree. During this Voliva’s last viiaih was vaw Hnsiv in Hid ▼ JLI3IU llvlv IK7 TV CTO “vl j KzttOV ill VIIO geminating his faith, and conducted a series of meetings in one of the churches. He made a special feature of denouncing this paper and its editor as has also many another fraud and fanatic, before and since. He boldly declared, among other things, that unless we let up on our exposure of Dowie’s frauds, that the old boy himself would take our case in hand, when he had a day off, and “cuss” us to death, just as he, and Dowie himself at that time claimed, Dowie had caused the sudden death of the great evangelist, Dwight L. Moody. That this other Voliva, now acting head of Zion, while Dowie is trying the benefit of a tropical climate in addition to his prayers, to rep*nre him to health, is a fanatic ; •er Dowie’s own heart, is shown by the fact that a few years ago he H rmitted his own little son to die i .'rightful agony, without medical : i. from the result of burns. “T.is being right in line with 1 wie’s own conduct, when his own • ighter was|fatally burned a num--1 ■ of years ago.
