How They Did In Mentone.

Mentone, Ind., February 12. — Local merchants took a unique way to head off the mail-order houses of Chicago. They employed a drayman, who made a list of all persons receining freight from these mail-order houses. Then, when one of the parties patronizing the Chicago houses appeared at the local *>tores, asking credit for purchases made, he was refused, no matter how good bis financial standing. Still further, when they had butter and eggs and other pro duce to sell they were told to forward the same to the Chicago houses. As a result, the town was soon placed on a cash basis, and the people quit trading with the Chicago houses.
