«Fifty-One Years Ago. JASPER BANNER, NQV, ?OTH AND DEC. 7TH 1854. Railroad talk had broke out strong again and an extehdfed article in the 30th, held out strong prospects again of the consi ruction work beginning soon at Rensselaer, and also a meeting was called for T3Scr2nd. The same issue however announced the resiguation of the president of the company, E Gest of Lacon, 111. The issue of Dec. 7th had nothing about the railroad, not even a mention of .the meeting of the 2nd. The editor published- a peppery letter from W. H. Salter and an equally peppery reply thereto. Salter was mad because the Masons had published resolutions on the death o£~Benj'. Welsh and signed his name as secretary, when he had never seen those resolutions until they appeared in the paper. The delinquent tax list was being published, and the paper said 69,761 acres were delinquent, and he thought it wah the largest list in the state and he Knew it was “every bit a streak of fat” for him and said so.
