Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 38, Number 36, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 19 January 1906 — NOTES, [ARTICLE]
NOTES,
Personal and Impebsonal. Judge U. Z. Willey came up from IndiaDapolis on the 9.55. He just wanted to “meet the boys” of his old district, and was taking no part in the battle. However, he is too well known as a staunch Crnmpacker man, not to be known where his sympathies were.
The editor men showed up pretty strong. Among them Robb of the Michigan City News, Mavity of the Valpo Vidette, Mavity of Lafayette Courier Bowser, of the Chesterton Tribune, Martin, who “keeps his eye on the Indicator” at Westville, and your Uncle John Carr, of the Fowler Leader, who never has a good word for Rensselaer or any of its citizens, nor lor anybody else unless there is something in it for John.
Bruce Van Bnskirk the dean of the editorial corps, bat hale and hearty as the youngest, of the Monticello Herald. Also Fred Griffin of the Remington Press who always stand by Jasper County, but with some little special predelictions for the south end, thereof which is all right Harry Strohm, of the Kentland Enterprise, was conspicions by his absence., They sat down on Harry a little this time seems to have been a little} sulky.* Some of them Haul the.) were tired of having the Kentland P. IM. 'carrying all Newton county around in his vest pocket
or words to That effect. However you can’t keep a good man down, and Harry is too consummate a politician to have his light kept under a bushel very long. The Hammond delegation seemed led by Ernest Shbrtridge formerly of Jasper, There was a big contest there, but thi Marshall forces won by an immense majority. A. F. Knotts led the opposition, and came down to try to put a crimp in tfceAolid Marshall delegation from Lake, but could not accomplish it. Bat Knotts, like Strohm, is too much of a thoroughbred io the politician line to be kept down very long.
