THE CITY COUNCIL.
The Mayor and all Councilman present. The mayor announced that he had appointed Wt, S. Parks as city marshal, t» succeed Mel Abbott, resigned. The city treasurer reported the following funds on hand: “Corporation und, $1052.69. Light fund, $L192.74. Water fund, $1716 95. Road fund, $1395.11.
The matter of repairing the floor of Washington street biidge, several of the planks of which are broken, was refered to the street committee, John F. McColly, a councilman elect, appeared add presented his certificate of elect ion and duly attested oath of office, and took his seat as a member of the €k>uncil This gives us a Council of seven members, until the terms of the old members expire in May. Supterintendent Chamberlain of the city electric light and water "works, was instructed to endeavor to take steps to prevent the present great waste of water. He is instructed to visit every house and place of business where water is us edand ascertain how many spigots are used in each, and also to learn if any water users are premitting the water to run nights. There is evidently, a great and unnecessary waste of water going on, and the pumps have to be kept going with more constancy now than in the height of summer, when the |proper use of water is much greater than at this time of the year.
The mayor was authorized to sign a| contract, with the General Electric Company, agree'ng to order all electrical supplies needed, of this comp my, and be thereby given a discount «f ten per cent, ai each purchase. A number of claims were con gidered and allowed.
