The County Commissioners
The County began their regular January session, today. And J. F. Pettet, the new Commissioner from the First District, took his seat for the first time succeeding A. Halleck. The retiring of Mr. Halleck made vacant the position of president of the Board and which he had so long and so ably filled and Charles T. Denham, of Remington, and member for the Third district, was chosen president in his place. He also, will make an able and faithful president.
The application for a saloon license in the First ward of Rensselaer, was disposed of. The applicant, Charles Garling, by his attorney filed an answer to the blanket remonstrance, alleging a conspiracy of voters of the ward to keep down the vote, «t the recent city election. The remonstrators filed a demurrer to the answer, and the Board sustained the demurrer, and found the remonstrance good, and by the figures they had claimed, no names being decided illegal. The license was denied, and this .ruling will shut out all saloons from the ward for two years, unless overruled by appeal. Intention to take such an appeal isjdeclared.
