S. U. Dobbins Secures Big Monumen Contract.
S. U. Dobbins just arrived home this morning from Crawfordsville, where his firm is located, the Pogne Monument Co. He has been down helping them figure and sell the Montgomery Co. and Crawfordsville water fountain and Soldiers Monument to be erected by Decor ation Day, 1906. There was an appeopriation of $6,000.00 by the Commissioners, and the firms that bid on said work are as follows: Scholtz Miller & Co., Indianapolis, $7,355.00. R. H. Carpenter, Bloomington, Ind. $5,740.00. McDowell & Son, Indianapolis $7415. 00. Pogue Monument Co- Crawfordsville $5718.00. Built out ot best Bedford stone, said monument to Stand 36 feet high and at the base 18 feet square in the die of the monument which is 9 feet on either face. There are to be four fountains the columns will support two figures, one represents a soldier of the type of the Civil War, and the other that of the Spanish War. Surmounting the shaft will be a beautiful bronze statue of the Goddess of Liberty. When completed the crest of the monument will be thirty-six feet above the base. Mr, Dobbins feels very proud of gaining the contract, and he has been saying all summer he was with one of best monument firms in the state.
