When Old Zero Butted In.

The unexpected snow storm of last Saturday 7 evening was followed by an equally unexpected slump in temperature. And it was of so pronounced a character that by morning, the bear movement in temperature stocks had forced the quotations down to the lowest point yet attained this winter; namely to the zero mark itself, and then some. For the downwaid movement continued until another half degree was ticked off, for good measure. It was the coldest weather yet experienced this winter, the next coldest being six above zero, on Dec. 6th. But the cold snap snapped out about as soon as it snapped in, and Sunday was a bright and moderate day. And Christmas Day which followed it was as fine and bright and mild a day as could be hoped for at the time of year.
