Wood’s Safe Was Not Very Good
Logan Wood of Parr, got his office safe opened Friday afternoon, after a good deal of trouble, and found that it had not resitted the heat of the fire as well as a good sate ought to do. The contents were considerably scorched and charred, but probably none of them so badly damaged as to cause him serious loss. The postage stamps, of which he had about .*(100 worth, are all stuck together by the heat and steam, but they can probably be separated enough to count, and so be redeemable without loss. His uotes, mortgages etc., are con siderably charred by prooably all are still legible. Most of his valu-I able papers in the sa e were in a; leather suit ease, and this case which he brought to town, is very badly scorched, and indicates that if his papers had not been in the case they would have fared much worse than they did. Mr. Wood says his safe fell ou its front when it weut down, and he attributes to this position the fact that his papers iu it were not all burned up.
