A FORMER RESIDENT JAILED FOR MURDER.

Frank Portwood, a young man who formerly lived in Rensselaer, as a boy, is now in jail at Danville, 111., charged with murder. It seems that on Nov, 30th he got iuto a fight in a saloon with a man named Andrew Guysinger over a game of cards. Portwood struck Guysinger so hard tliat he fell against the bar of the saloon. The injuries from the blows and the fall'caused Guysingei’s death Sat urday. The newspaper reports of the inquest do not indicate that the trouble was anything more than a common drunken fight, nor that Portwood will probably be convicted of any worse than man slaughter though the finding of the coroner’s jury was that he Jwas the “wilful and unlawful slayer” of Guysinger. Pertwoo'’ was about 24 years old and a locomotive fireman. The family were related by marriage to Lewis Day, a former resident ol our city.
