Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 38, Number 21, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 7 November 1905 — Monticello 11—Rensselaer 0. [ARTICLE]
Monticello 11—Rensselaer 0.
“What did they done, what did they done? Oh Monty put us on the bum.” Our crowd went to Monticello yolling and came back wailing; and the above was one of their wails. In truth our football team was badly trimmed up, in the game with Monticello, the score being eleven for Monticello to nothing for Rensselaer, which was just the figure by which Rensselaer beat Delphi the week before. It was a good square clean game, and Monticello’s victory was fairly won. They made their score all in the first half, after which our boys gingered up and held them from making any bigger score. The whole occasion passed off very nicely, and our people were so well treated by the Monticello, people, and there is no kirk coming on the conduct of the game nor the treatment of the people. Although by all accounts Rensselaer is still quite a number of scores ahead in the matter of hospitality to visiting football crowds. There were no ’serious accidents though Vaughn Woodworth and Jail McFarland of Rensselaer’s team got pretty painful jolts. The next game will be with West Lafayette here next Saturday.
