About The Library Matters.
The Board of Directors of the Public Library at their meeting Thursday night, took steps towards advancig the use by the public of the large auditorium, or lecture room, in the lower story, and for which 360 seats have been received. A committee to secure a list of lecturers and entertainments was appointed, consisting of S. P. Thompson, City Superintendent Warren, County Superintendent Hamilton, Mrs. E. C. English and and Mrs. J. H. Chapman. It is the intention to secure educational and musical entertainments from away, and also to encourage home entertainments of various kinds, and especially high school debates and other exercises. The newly organized Fiction Club is also invited to hold their meetings in the auditorium.
The cost of using the room per evening for free entertainments, or those for which the benefits are for educational or other benevolent purpose, is $2 per night, for lights and janitor work. For day meetings only per meeting. For pay entertainments, not for benevolent purposes the charge is $5 per night. The library, has been receiving some large donations of,books lately, as Mrs. M. E. Thompson, Mrs. Ora Ross and Judge Thompson have presented from 50 to 75 or 80 volumes each. There is now an average of 60 books a day taken out.
