RENSSELAER WINS EASILY
By A Score of 10 For Rensselaer and Nothing For Shortridge. The opening high school foot ball game of the season was played here last Saturday afternoon between Rensselaer high school team, and Shortridge high school, from Indianapolis. There was a large crowd present, and a large proportion of whom fully expected to see the home team defeated by the chosen players from Indiana’s largest high school, but instead our boys scored a conclusive victory with ten points for them to nothing for the visitors. But while it is a great satisfaction to state that our high school team 0T1905 played with all the grit arrd skill and vim of previous years it is far from satisfactory to record that there was not that gentlemanly and considerate spirit manifested that our high school games have usually been characterized with. And it is no excuse for rough and dangerous play, quarrelling 'and fighting to say that the “other fellows’’ were just as bad. The boys must “cut all that out” hereafter if they expect to retain the good will and patronage of the better element of our citizens. The following is the techincal report of the game: Shortridge won the toss and chose the East Goal. Dobbins kicked to 25 yards line. Hughes returning ball 10 yards. Bensselaer held them for downs and a series of bucks by Yeoman and (Uapt.) Daniels advancing the ball to Shortridge, 30 yard line when Dobbins circled right end for first touch down; time 2i minutes, no goal.
Shortridge kicked to 10 yard line Dobbins returning ball 15 yards, then came a series of off tackles plays and line smashes carrying the ball to the center of the field when Shortridge held, Shortridge advanced 15 yards when she lost in downs, and Bensselaer slowly but surely was going after another touch down, * with Shortridge contestting every foot of the way. When time was called ball in Rensselaer possession on Shortridge 10 yard line.
