Dowell Is a Peppery Person.

George W. Dowell, whose latest ugly fight, at Kcjkomo, was related a few days ago, is well remembered by his acquaintances here, as a man of exceedingly hasty temper, ai d very vengeful while angry, and prone to shoot in a hurry and to repent—when he gets the worst of it. The'Winamac Democrat-Jour-nal gives the following summary of Dowell’s shooting scrapes. While living at Francesville Dowell and Wood Thrasher engage ed in a little gun play, when the latter shot Dowell in the breast - The ball was extracted later. At another time, a crowd of young min and boys taunted Dowell as he was passing along the streets ol Francesville, when he fired at the group, evidently with no intention of hitting any particular one, but the shot chanced to strike Sam Rees in the leg.

After his removal to Kokomo he was connected with two or three shooting affrays. In one of these he shot John Campbell, a mail carrier, in Dowell's office, over a real estate trade. The bullet struck a button on the mail carrier's coat and was deflected, he finding it afterwards in the mail sack. Before Dowell could shoot again, Campbell struck him a blow on the head with an ink stand. Dowell, charged with shooting with intent to kill took a change of venue to Frankfort, where the jury found him guilty of plain assault and battery and fined him one dollar and costs.
