Mrs. W. H. Beam's Critical Condit on.
Mrs. W. H. Beam, wife of the station agent here was taken with a violent attack of strangulated heirna about midnight Sunday night. The next day, Monday, her physician decided that an immediate operation was the only hope of saving her life, and she was taken to Chicago on the 9.55 a. m. train, Tuesday, She was ac companied by Mr. Beam, Mrs. W. F. Smith and a physician. Th< journey on the cars greatly aggra viated her condition, and when the operation was performed that after noon, at Mary Thompson hospital, the physicians stated that a few hours longer delay would have been fatal? as indications of ap proaching gangrene were already present. She stoo 1 the operation well, ami at latest reports her cod diticn was as good as could be ex pected, though still quite critical. Only about 25 per cent of those at tacked with this disease ever re cover, but owing to the promptness of her operation, less than 36 hour.' after the attack, probably her pro spects are better than this average Mrs. Smith is remaining to help care for her.
