Governor Hanly Did Right

Governor Hanly, in a public ad dress Tuesday, made public the reasons why removed Auditor Sherrick from office, and if the Governor is correct in his state ments, and there is no reason to doubt them, then Sherrick not only deserved to lose his office, but he deserves a term in the peniteu •.ary also. More than that he made statements, without mentioning lis name, which show that Tom Taggart, the great smiliug chief • fstate and national Democracy, was practically the instigator of and the profiler by Sherrick’s en* bizzlements, and morally at least deserves the same condemnation, lu the spring of 1903 the Governor siys Sherrick spent 60 days at French Lick, then as now operated by Tom Ta.gart, and while there he gambled away SIO,OOO of the sbite’s money, most of which Hanly says could be traced 1 y by checks directly into th* hands of the gentleman who then operated the Freuch Lick gambling hell.

The Governor does not believe the charge that other state officers are doing as Sherrick did, but saylie wains lo know it if they are and he will serve them as he served Sherrick.
