Gen. Carnahan Dead.
Maj. Gen. James Richard Carnahan, commander of the uniform rank, Knights of Pythias of the world, died at his home in Indianapolis, Thursday. Gen. Carnahan was born in Dayton, Ind,, Nov--18, 1811. His father was a Presbyterian. minister and for more than fifty |years was paster of a church at Lafayette. At the opening of the Civil war he joined ■“Wallace Zouaves.” In 1881 he Q was made adjutant general of Indiana. When then the uniform rank Knights ot Pythias, was reorganized in 1884 Gen, Carnahan was appointed major general, commanding and that position he held to the time of his death. He was prominently spoken of for the position of commander in ohief of the tt. A. R. and probably would have been a candidate before the coming encampment at Denver.
