That Bad Jordan Road Again

About two weeks ago the faot waspublished that a movement was on foot for building a stone pise on the milts of very bad road between Rensselaer and Remington. The plan then proposed was for the citizens of Rensselaer and R emington to build abouta mile, and for the county to do the rest A more careful examination of the law has convinced the projectors, that the plan was not praotioable; the lawnnder which they propose a to operate, being evidently not applicable to this particular situation. Now enother plan nas been developed and one which has full legal and judicial sanction as to its lawfulness. and also seems to be not only entirely praotioable, but very fair and equitable, as applied to this, particular situation. The plan now proposed is *o build the three miles as a joint township road, with Marion, Carpenter and Jordan all united to buildit. The three townships will for this purpose, form one voting and one taxing distriot. Petitions will be presented to the commissioners, they will order a speoial eleotion, in whioh all the voters in the three townships will have the right to participate, and if a majority of the votes cast favor building the road; the commissioners will proceed to let the contract and sell the bonds, the same as if only a single township was concerned. The oost would be taxed to all the property equally, and oould be extended over 20 years, if 'desired. The estimated oost of a good stone road there is about SB,OOO At the present assessment of property this oost would over half fall on Marion, over a third on Carpenter, and ess than one ninth on Jordan. And this would not be a very unequal distribution in proportion the benefits that would be derived.

Petitions have already been prepared and are now being circulated, and Beam to meet with muoh favor; and especially among JordaD township people; several of whom have expressed their intention, if this load is built under this plan to later build wholly at Jordan’s own expense, an east and west gravel or stone road to conneot with this road, and extend west to the Newton oounty line.
