troodland Herald: It ia said that the ynnnfl man who steers Geo. Ade’a automoli'e claimed that he made the run frcm Remington to Good'and (eight miles) in eight minutes, the other day. Whatever may be the young man’s virtuea in other direction a regard for the law is oertainly not one of them. There is a law on the statute book limiting the automobile speed on coun try roada to 20 milea an hour, and the man who deliberately virletes it should be made to pay the penalty. Otherwise legislation b±eames a faroe, and any individual, big or little, ia a greater power than the whole commonwealth in wbioh he ohcoaes to operate.
The Old Nan on the Corner.
Your’old Unole Rubs Landis, whose first name is 0. B. and his last one M. 0., has been doing another of his old tim6 stunts on the Delphi Journal, under the old time heading of “The Old Man on the Corn er Unole Rube is now a real horny handed o!d farmer onoe more and living on his recently bought fine farm a mile and a half from Delphi, fie feels too good to contain himself to get back on a farm again, and we dont blame him. He has a two and a half column artiole, and all oho long pean of praise over the joys of the farmers’ lif J ; especially as he remembers them as a boy. It is all mighty good reading but we only have room for the.opening paragraphs, here given: It has keen a long time einoe I have talked through this column. It was not beoause I did not want to talk but beoause I have not had the time —affairs have orowled so thick and fast on the heels of each ®ther that there has scarcely been time to sleep, let alone w rite articles for newspapers. I’m living in the country now ent on a farm. It has been the ambition of my life to do this. I was born that way, in the oonntry. Take the boys who have run bare looted on the meadows, who have fought bumble bees and waded in the “crick” with no one to molest or make afraid, unless they go wrong they never oease longing to get back into the old atmosphere. That is the way it has been with me. Some of those early days were hard days, those days when we gathered, sheaves, bshind the eradle and the old iron harvester, tod mowed away hay in a barn where there appeared to be no air and "raked away” from the tail •nd of the threshing machine and shucked corn, end wormed tobacco and hauled fodder with snow on it »nd so forh aud so on. I say some s? tliem were hard days and while they were passing there were some muttering? and dreams of the oity, and vows of gettiog away, but once away the advantage of it all stood jut so boldly that t jere is not an ftonr coir associated with those days that I do not treasure, and, m m way reverence. And, I have always felt thait the trees were my friends and the rivers and springs aud field?, and I have wanted to Mve with them and I am going to do it, that’s all. l#lbs. of granulated sugar for SI.OO at the Clearance Bale at the Chioago Bargain Store.

FOR THE LITTLE ONES.
Whittle Buff le a Merry Game to Play at a Party. Whistle buff is & sort of modified blind man’s buff, played, however, without a bandage over the eyes and without the romping element which sometimes makes the well known game objectionable. A small whistle is Suspended from the coat collar or dress of one of the party by a piece of twine or thread about half a yard long, which hangs down between the shoulders. The “knight” or the “lady” of the whistle, as the case may be, then stands in the center or walks slowly round the circle of the company. Some one, watching an opportunity, seizes the whistle and blows it shrilly, when the knight immediately turns to detect the offender, and if lie hits upon the right person the latter must take his place. As the player turns to find out one whistlpr another gives a blow, and thus the game proceeds merrily until some one less dexterous than the rest is caught.
Puzzling Figure* and a Joke. Put down the year you were bom; add 4. Then add your age at your next birthday, provided it comes before Jan. 1; otherwise your last birthday. Multiply the result by 1,000. From this subtract 694,423. Substitute for the resulting figures the corresponding letters of the alphabet—A fbr 1, B for 2, C for 3, etc. if ..The result will give the name by which you are popularly known. This trick is given to Suit the year 1903. For 1906 and for every year after that add an additional I,QOO to the amount to be subtracted—vk, for 1906 make it 695,423, and so on. Try this trick and see how it works. * Cat and Mouie. The in tieo rows opposite each other, with a space between. One ohild takes the place of “cat," being blindfolded, and one takes thq place of “mouse” and is also blindfolded, the cat standing at one end of the row and the mouse at the opposite end. They start in opposite directions, guiding themselves by the chairs, the cat trying to catch the mouse. When the mouse is caught it is made the cat, and one of the company takes the place of the mouse.
