A Bicycle Excursion Bitched.

The friends of C, B. Steward are divided in opin’on as to whether, in outwtrd appearance he now most resembles the after effects’of a Fourth of July fire works, cr the wind-up of a democratic conyention. In truth he is considerably bruised and battered, and the wherefore was an adventure which befell him on the 4th of July. He was slipping along on his new “Bird of the Wilderness” bicycle on the east and west road north of Burk’s bridge. He struck a long down grade, and throwing on his coaster brakes, he glided along, as swift and easy and careless as a bird, when he suddenly came to a muddy place in the road, caused by the previous night’s dashing, rain. He swerved to one side to avoid the mud. when suddenly bis wheels skiddid on the slippery clay banks of a deep gully by the side of the road, but newly washed out nod concealed by the weeds growing aloag side. Toe bottom of the ditch wa« far down in the bowels c f the tar.h, but Charley reached it ultimately, though in a sad’y hrms-d, battered and hasps’ tired condition
