Came Mighty Near Winning The Invitation Meet at Bloomington Saturday The Rensselaer high school athletes covered themselves with glory.at the invitation high school meet at Bloomington last Saturday Out of nine sohools that had their best athletes there, our boys won third plaie.and the hi ghest p’acs of anystraight high school but onethat was represented. Moreover, had it not been for two or three pieces of bad luck, we would have done much better, and possibly won the eeoond plaoe. Arit was we won one first, one second and four thirds scoring in all points In the .mile raoe Percy Hauter won easily out of about 13 starters, aad got a gold medal. In pole vault Earl Barkley was second. He won by a vault of only 10 feet and 3 inches, yet he often this season has made 10 feet and 10 inches. Ou his first jump Saturday h» came against one of standards, whioh somewhat demoralized him for the rest of the contest. There were 13 or 12 in this contest.

Gaylord McFarland won third ia running broad jump, also against a big bunoh. Homer Dobbits won third in hammer throw, and would have won Ist or 2nd, had he not overstepped the mark half an inch, when he made a throw of 103 feet, His worst luok, however was in the hurdle race.
