There is now quite a strong probabi’ity that the legal obstaoles in the construction of the Iroquois River ditch will be removed, and the construction of the ditch proceeded with. It is stated that some outside parties will contribute $1,500 to pay the Monon railroad oompany towards the costs of their bridge changes, and that they have agreed to accept this sum in addition to the SBOO damages allowed by the viewers and the cutting off of the several thousand dollars the oompany is assessed for benefits. The B. J,'Gifford matter is to be settled by the county paying him directly, ana 'charging it to oost of construction, the $2,500 he asks for benefits his private ditches have dons’jto the highways, by way of a set-off on his some $7,000 of assessments for the Iropuois ditoh. la this way the matters oan be adjusted without aotually changing that huge volume, the viewers report and to this arrangement all parties, so far as beard from seem willing to sgree.
