World's Largest Floating Dock.
The largest floating steel dr.v dock in the world, which is being constructed at the dock department of the Maryland Steel Company, at Baltimore, is now pearly complete. It is expected that it will be floated in May. The dock is for the United States government and has been planned to raise the largest vessel in the United States navy. The contract requires that it shall lift a 1(»,000-ton battleship, but this capacity will be exceeded, and its maximum lifting power will he 20‘,000 tons. The floating dock contains 11,000 tons of steel and has 2,000,<XM) rivets. It will require 130 tons of red lead ntid linseed oil to paint it. Its cost is $1,250,000. It is 500 feet long over nil. 100 feet wide between fenders, 134 feet wide over all and 42 feet high on the side walls clear of the pontoons.
