For Proper Observance of the Day.
Department Adjutant General Balsley, of the G. A. R., department ts Indiana, prompted by a suggestion from the Indianapolis post of tt at order, issued an appeal to all posts of the state, to the public and to the the newspapers atkirg for a concerted effort to secure a proper observance of Memorial day next month. It is desired to make it a day of impressive meaning, not a holiday for baseball games, picnics and the like. The at jutant-general holds that it is but fit thut the occasion should have its true purpose, the commemoration of the valor and sacrifices of the American soldiery. An effort will be made to work up a strong sentiment in this direction.
