Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 37, Number 26, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 4 April 1905 — Bird Protection Should Be Enforced. [ARTICLE]
Bird Protection Should Be Enforced.
The pro isions of the law against killing birds or molesting their eggs or nests are many ana explioit, and we would like to see them enforced by the proper offioers. Generally, it oan be said that game birds are proteoted in various ways as to the dosed and open seasons, while song birds generally are proteoted all the time. The law mentions so many kinds of birds that it is safe to say that it is unlawful to kill or molest the eggs or nest of any song birds except sparrows. It is becoming to be understood so well that birds are nsefnl in keeping down inseots and worms that the killing of them for sport is loosed on with ill favor by everyone, excepting the small boy with a rifle, and he should be made to respect the law if he does not the birds.
