A Fertilizer For Muck Land.

The following letter in r gtrd to suitable fertilizers for muck lands, is publish by rt quest of MrMeade”, the recipiect. Mrt Ira F. Meader, Rensselaer, Ind. Dear Sir: In reply to y ur saver of the 9 h’inst., we would say that kainit is a suitable fertilizer for corn upon muck lauds where the only element needed is potash. Thid ie true of most of the large b idies of muck land, but come of the lends commonly called musk lands 'contain considerable sand, and upon these lands experience indicatts that some phosphoric acid is needed as well as potash. Upon pure muck lands it wculd be more economical ti pure haft muriate of potash than it would to purchase kainit; i.e., f>r a given turn of money you would get more potash in the form of the muriate than you would in the form of the kainit, unless the muriate cost four times as much per ton as the kainit; the kainit contains 12| per cent of potisb, while the muiiate contains a little over 50 per cent. Upon the black soils which you will probably fied a fertiliz r con. taining about 6per cent or 7per of ava table peosphorio acid and Bper cent or 9per cent of pota-h a suitable one for corn or potatoes. If the pot toes are plant id early it might be advisable to use a lit tie nitrate of soda in order to provide fur the needs of ths potatoe p'.aat until the black toil becomes waimed up. More ocra can b) raised by broadcasting the fertilizer than by applying uin ths hill, but the results in the early part of the season will not be as marked as where the material is applied in the hi”i It would not be safe to apiply kainit or muriate of potash with corn in the hill. Either of the potash and phosphoric aoid, in the fertilizer mentioned above can be distributed broadcast immediatly as ter plowing and before harrowing Oa the muck lands the pot ah can be distributed broadcast before

plowing.' We take p'easure in sending you, under separate cjvtr, a number of copies of a little pamphlet which has just been issued, which we hope will prove of interest to you. If we can ba of further service to you at and time, we shall be very glad to do so.. Very truly ycurs German Kali Works Per H. A. Huston St. Louis Mo
