The Biggest Cash Payment.
The biggest single cash psvmeftt ever transacted in Jasper county was made here in Rensselaer, last Friday evening. It was then that John J. Lawler completed the purchase of the big Carrol C. Kent ranch, in this and Newton counties. There are 9,378 aons in the ranch, and of which 2,972 acres are in Jasper county and 6 405 in Newton, The price pa : d was approximately $150,000, in cash, A part of thia was paid when the land was birgtined for abiat a month ago. The balance, some $116,000 was paid here Fiiday evening, in bank drafts. Wm. Darroch, of Kentland, represented Mr. Kent, who is t-aveling in Asia, and J. E. Wilson, of Rensselaer, represented Mr. Lawler, who was also here himsdf. This added to Mr. Lawler’s other darge holdings makes him probably the 2nd largest individual land owner in Indiana, and next after B. J. Gifford.
