Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 37, Number 20, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 14 March 1905 — Be Ready for the Assessor. [ARTICLE]
Be Ready for the Assessor.
The assessors begen their work last Monday and are allowed until May 15th to finish up. It shon'd be borne iu mind, however, that what they are trying to find out is tow much property you h d on the first day of March and not on ths day the assessor happens to call on you. Tax payers could greatly facilitate the worx of the assessors by making a list of their property before he calls. The law requires all p -isonal propelty, inoludiag mon-y, notes and foods (except government, 8 ate, county and municipal bonds) to be listed for taxation. Ail improvement bonds, such as street, sewer, etc., are taxable and must be listed. If you hold notes, taxable bonds, building and loan stock, or accounts, you may deduct any debts you may owe from the sum thereof, but you cannot take credit for indebtedness against cash cn hand or on deposit, Dots three months old on the first of March must be list ed.
