More About The Alleged Counterfeiter.

Indianapolis News: Capt. Tom Halls, of the United S'atei secret service, and Marshal Tom Martin returned last night from Kersey, Ind., where they captured Thurman Smith,who is accused of having passed counterfeit coin in the northern part of the State It is alleged that be has bean passing off counterfeit standards dollars in the towns of Wheatfield and Tefft. Ticket agents at both of the towns were victims of the imitation, which were made by means of a plaster paris mold. When Smith learned that the Government officers were after him, he took flight to Kersey, a little station of fifteen or twenty houses but the officers followed by means of a freight train and captured their man after a few hours search. Smith was taken to Hammond and before United States Commissioner Virgil Reiter. Smith was’eommitted to jail under bond of $1,090. His trial was set for March 15. The extent of Smith’s alleged counterfeiting operations is not known, although a number of the bad coins have been collected.
