Big Road Fight Ended.
The last act in one <fthe b g gest rad fights Jisp't County ever had took plac i last Wednesday forenoon in the Commissioners Court. Tne fight has lasted for three years. It was proposed to open about 5 mi'es of new north and south road through Newton township on the line running directly down to the Lamson bridge. This five miles of propose! new read is in three diff-r ent stretches and when completed will form the last links of the longer! 10 d in Jasper County, ex'ending fr< m the Kankakee river on tie north to Benton county on the south and on through Banton clear to Oxford. It is already opened all but the 5 miles io Newton and runs directly north and south except a few j gs for corrections. In the fight eg-.instit three eepar ate sets of viewers have been over it then it went to the circuit court and frun th-re to the Supreme Court which sustained the com misaioners in ordering the roid, The road cu*s io two a 400 acre pasture belonging to John Makeever and was opposed by him and a few others. The last move, taken that fore noon, was to present a petition asking the commist-ioners to vacate the road. This th y refused to do and now Mr. Makeever states he will make no further opposition to the openirg of the road. ~—===
