RFNSSELAER II VEEDERSBURG 4.
The big, blythe and buxom beltee from Fountain oounty, were no match for the light, lithe and lissome maids of Jasper, at the bsskst ball game at the ermcry, Friday evening. The Veedersburg heavy weights, tossed and knocked and threw about our girls until they did not know whether they were playing basket ball or shuttle oook, and themselves the shuttles. But they always alighted on their feet, or seme other advantageous position, and all the wbi'e kept their score on the up grade. And when the war was over the state ohitnpions were beaten by a score of eleven to four. There was a large er wd in attendance, and it was a fiay gwme. There wes muoh oomplaint that the Vtedersburgesses knocked our damsels about with more vim than was in keeping with striotly fair play; and there was alto good grounds for criticising the Rensselaer boys on the side lines for their excessive roasting of the Veederaburgs. Rensselaer’s fame for fair and courteous treatment of opponents should go hand ia hand with our celebrity for skillful playing. Otherwise our fame will be bnt as sounding brass and tinkling cymbals.
The following were the players on the two teams: Veedersburg. Rensselaer. Forwards Miss Stncker Madge Beam Miss Van Dam Josie Porter Centers Miss Stenbaugh Lizzie Riddle loma Imes s o Guards ... Miss Sullivan Josie Miller Mies Brown Mellie Drake
