In the Senate Monday the bill for a monument to P. Morton in the State House yard was advanced to third reading after amendment to allow public contributions. The anti-cigarette bill was also advanced to third reading. Sen-* ator Moore introduced a bill for ft boardof fire Insurance commissioners with' power to fix Insurance rates., The bill amending the Indlahapolis ! *fUjrenlle court law was passed. Bill to prohibit the use of live pigeons at shooting contests was passed. In the House the Batman bill, prohibiting revision in school text books oftener than each ten years. Instead of each five years, was advanced (o third reading, after long debate. Colton H. Mclsaacs, representative of Lewis and Clark exposition, Portland, Ore., asked the State to appropriate funds for an exhibit. In the Senate Tuesday the bill appropriating $36,000 for Morton monument in State House yard was passed. Many petitions favosing bill for two-year remonstrance against saloons were presented before the Moore bill came up as special order. The Roemler divorce bill was reported favorably with amendments. The finance committee’s report In favor of a, State village for epileptics was adopted. In the Houso thirty-seven bills were introduced. McGonagle introduced a bill to permit county commissioners to employ accountants to investigate county officers’ books, on petition of thirty property owners. Beals introduced a bill to remove limitation of SIO,OOO as maximum damages that mny be paid for death by accident. Petitions were presented against State Auditor Shcrrick’s tax ferret bill. The ways and means committee reported favorably Springer’s bill for southeastern hospital for tho insane.
In the Senate Wednesday the Moore bill to place the burden on the applicant for a liquor license to disprove the genuineness of names on a remonstrance was killed by a close vote. Stephenson Introduced a bill requiring people and judge and prosecutor to be notified before a prisoner is paroled. Hendee introduced a bill to repeal the law which prevents a wife from going Security. Roemler’s bill to allow State prison convicts to cultivate State lands near Michigan City was passed. In the House the Keyes bill for the election of county school superintendents by popular vote was killed. Ruick introduced a bill to repeal law against Sunday baseball, which he will support in place of bill to allow Sunday baseball from 2 to G p. m. Legler introduced a bill for crematories in Indianapolis and Evansville. Bossou introduced a new railroad commission bill. The library committee submitted divided report on Ballard bill to abolish library commission, the majority being for the bill. The Senate on Thursday passed the Moore bill amending the liquor laws by providing that a remonstrance filed by a majority of the voters of n ward or township against a particular license being issued shall apply against that person for two years. The Wood garnishee bills were reported unfavorably. One was killed and one is to be printed. The Barcus bill on primary elections was a special order in the afternoon. In the House the Batman bill for -school book revision not oftener than once in ten years was passed. The ways and means committee reported against bills for monuments in Civil War battlefields. Agar introduced a bill to abolish the codii fi eat ion commission. The' Yencer automobile bill was a special order in the afternoon. •
