Fire at Berlin Heights, Ohio, destroyed Newton Andrews’ block and adjoining buildings. Loss $40,000. Joseph Wilkes nnd Luke Gay, colored firemen, were instantly killed ns a result of a boiler explosion in the Vulcan building, Cleveland, Ohio. James M. A. Watson, the clerk in the auditor's office of the District of Columbia, who was accused of embezzling $73,000 of ftinds-ititriisted to him by Auditor Petty, was sentenced to ten years' imprisonment in the penitentiary. Cripple Creek, Colo., mine owners decided to build a new drainage tunnel for the benefit of the Cripple Creek mines, to cost upward of $500,000. Dr. Ross, naval medical director, located in Panama, in an interview in New Orleans said the only way to avoid heavy mortality on the isthmus is to exterminate tlie niosipiito.
