‘‘Wilson of Jasper” has introduced a bill to relieve the former township trustees of Marion, Barkley, Hanging Grove, Newton, Keener and Jordan from responsibility for the township money they lost in the MoCoy bank. This was largely petitioned for by the taxpayers of the different townships, and the law will probably be passed. Harry Gifford, of northeast Barkley, was in town today, and reported that he had traded the Bteel farm for a groaery Btook and meat market at Bradley, 11l , and was preparing to move there in a week or two. He has baea a resi-' dent of Jasper abont 12 years, most of the time as one of the foremen of bis unole B. J. Gifford’s farms, and has been a very popular and much respected citizen. Since last May 18 applicants for saloon licenses at Fowler have been defeated by remooßtranoes, and now two fresh ones have bobbed up for the February term. The proposed amendment to the Nioholson law, will pat a stop to euoh repeated attempts to open saloons in anti-saloon communities, or rather in some anti saloon communities. In places like Rensselaer, where the fights are oonfiaed t i wards, the amendments will not be nearly so effective.
