ANOTHER STATE OFFICER

A bill to provide for the examination of the accounts of all county officers who have the disburse me its of funds wilt be fatheredjointly by Senators Bsrcns and Cavios of Terre Haute. They talked with Attorney General Miller last night about the necessary provisions Jfor the proposed bill. They hope to have it drafted and ready for introduction before the end of the week. The bill is aimed principally at j county treasurers. The many defalcations within the last few years oonvince them, the Senators say*, that the public should be safeguardtd by rigid examinations The bill will provide for tbe’appointment, by the Governor, of an examiner, whose salary will be fixed by law- He will make exami. nation of the aooounts of county officers upon the written request of boards of county commissioners or upon a petition to the Governor signed by fifty freeholders of r a oounty.
