Pay of Township Trustees.

As matters now stand it is doubtful whether township trasteea of tbe state will win their fight for higher salaries. A maj mty of the members of the House Committee on Ocunty and Township Affairs are said to be opposed to tbe trustees’ demand for an inorease of from $2 to $3 a day, while several members to which snob a bill might be sent, are saying that the people of tbe state o-tn’t afford the inoiease. While abit to pay the trustees may not pass, owing largely to the financial eoouomy that will be practiced all along the line it would not be suprising, leaders say, to see a’.bill passed giving them a slight inorease—s2.2s or even $2 50 a day, A hill providing for the increase from $2 to $3 a day has been drafted, bnt will not be presented for some time. ~ Its provisions are said to have been dictated by officers of the Township Trustees’ Association. That they should receive some increase of pay looks oertainly no mere than right. Since their prerent rate of pay was fixed there has been a general increase in prices of almost everything and of wages and siiaries included so that an increese for them wonla be only in keeping with the enr- ( rent of effaiis generally.
