Rensselaer Semi-Weekly Republican, Volume 37, Number 2, Rensselaer, Jasper County, 6 January 1905 — THAT FACTORY PROPOSITION. [ARTICLE]
THAT FACTORY PROPOSITION.
IT LOOKS VtRYQOODTO OS. The proposition of the Chioago parties to looate an over-all and pants factory in Rensselaer is now ready for the consideration of onr citizens. Briefly stated they will looate a factory here to begin abont March Ist. to start with 50 hands, and this number to be increased as fsst as profioienoy and additional help can be procured. They ask the oity or people of Rensselaer to furnish a suitable building, rent, beat, power and light free. Ttiis arrangement to oontinne for three years, at the option of the parties; and the factory will then agree to remain permanently if d« sired, and to regularly not leßs than 100 hands) with an average pay roll of not) less than SSOO per week. The, oity to then provide a permanent' location for the factory, in a two\ story briok building 40 by 140 feet/ in size, and to install in said build- j ing a steam heating plant and I eleotrio motor sufficient to operate j the machinery of the company. U This building will nqt need to | be located in or very near the bnsi- j ness center, and in faot, it would be preferable to have it away from i the oenter. If at any time less | than three years, the ‘people be came satisfied that the faotory was a good thiog to oliDch permanently, they oould do so by ereotiug and equipping the bnildmg above mentioned.
The faotory employs -jnatnly girls and women, and no time is required to acquire proficiency. They expect to obtain the great hulk of their help right from the community where located. Good hands aocn earn from $5 to $7 or mote per iveek. It is nioa dean work and a nioe olean faotory, and does not bring any Tough, or turbulent or striking element into a town, as many factories do. It would very materially in crease the population of the town, right from the first, and also greatly increase the prosperity of our business men. It would also be the starting point for other desirable factories to locate here; aDd there is already another somewhat similar faotory ready to oome here if this one ia treated fairly. Mayor Ellis has visited this faotory in Chicago, and finds it all thatitdaimsto.be, and he also believes it is ft r the most favorable and promising faotory proposition ever offered to Rensselaer. The cost of putting the faotory here, in some of the available buildings already ereoted, has been approximately estimated at SIOOO per year, for the next three years, which is surely but a very small amount to invest in a proposition which promises such large and constantly increasing returns.
