Friday Night’s Fire Alarm.
Tne fire alarm sounded about 5:30 Friday night, and for the first time for a long time. It did Dot sound very long nor very loud, but still enough to get the hose carts and hook and ladder wagon on the run. The tooting stopped before the position of the supposed fire was clearly understood, and for a time the fire company in looking for the fire was, to use a timehonored simile, ‘'whewing around like a hen with her head off.” Finally, after following a false report clear to the depo*, the apparatus was hauled back without having located any fire It was finallearned however that the alarm resulted from the burning out of a chimney at B. A. Parkison’s residence, on north Weston street When Ad discovered what was doing in his chimney he gave it the heroic remedy of a big * dose of salts” or at least salt, and gave himself no more uneasiness, but some excitable neighbor rang up for the fire alarm, and for which there was no need whatever.
