A SUCCESSFUL CONTEST.
The annual County Oratorical Contest, among the country school children, was held at the opera house, Thursday evening, and was very largely attended. It was a great success, in all respects, and the various contestants, being one from each town, not only did well, but surprisingly well. The following t were the different township representatives present, and the subjects of their orations. Barkley, “Life is What We Make It.” Owney Callahan. Carpenter, “South America” Willie Hamilton. Hanging Grove, “Oar Township” Verne E. Parker. Jordan, “India.” Lee Bransen Marion, “What is Worth While’ Kitie'Marl att. Milroy “Farm Life” Harry 8. Cook. * Newton, “The Value of an Education” Emmet Orow. Union, “Little Things” Indus Wiseman, Walker, “Oliver Cromwell and English Liberty” Oliver M. Harshman. Wheatfield, “Gettysburg” Homer Turner. So great and so nearly equal were the merits of the orators that the judges debated half an tour before arriving at a decision. The judges were the Institute instructors, E. B. Bryan, E, E. Olcott and Nannie C. Love. They finally awarded to Emmet Crew, the Newton township representative,"the Ist prize and to Oliver M. Hershmaa of Walker the 2nd prize, The prizes were gold and silver medals, f respectively.
