EXTENT OF MITCHELL’S INJURIES
Later word from James O. Mit ohetl at Reynolds, says Thursday’s Montioello Journal show that his injuries are more extensive than at first reported. When the doo tors oame to examine him, they fonnd it neoeseary to ampntate hie left hand above the wrist and the index finger of the right hand The right thumb is badly braised, the out outer bone of the right forearm was broken, the tight of the left eye is entirely destroyed and the eye will have to be remov* ed, while the right eye is severely injured, so muoh so, that it is fear ed that the sight oannot oe saved; the great toe on the left foot bad aho to be amputated. In addition to these injuries there are some twenty or thirty smaller outs and laoerated places on his limbs and body/ while his face is said to look like a piece of raw beef. An ooulist hae been called to attend to his eyes, the looul surgeons Dot oaring to undertake that work. Mr. Mitchell was conscious this morning and talked quite freely about the explosion, whir b he says was caused by a tail in the mill in which be wss grindir g powder.
