Will Enter Evangelistic Work.
The Rev. J M. Elam, who retires from the pastorate of the Rensselaer Christian Church at the end of this month, does so with the intention of entering the general evangelisticwork which his annsual gifts as a powerful and ready preaober specially fit him to suoceed in. Yet his intended departure is greatly regretted, not only by his congregation, which unanimously requested him to remain another year, but by the community generally. Hia year’s woik here has been markedly successful, not only in building up the ohuroh membership, in drawing and bolding large congregations at his meeting?, and more especially the yonng people at his Sunday evening meetings, whioh have always been crowded. He has also done a notable work as his share m putting the movement for a new ohuroh building on a successful footing. His minsterial labors here have been specially suooe sfnl among the yonng people both on aoocunt of bis being him self etill a yonng man, and from his ready sympathy with their wishes and aspirations and his great personal affability.
