AT GOODLAND.

A much advertised “badger fight” was polled off, or rather pulled out, at Goodiand last Saturday, Nov. 26th. The tffairhad been preity w< 11 advertised, and certain humane people bad called

on Sheriff Wddaeia to stop it. TJbe sheriff sad his deputy Jake \yhite responded to the oall aud were on baad some hours in adj vanoe of tie advertised time. The spirts in charge oinvinoed the officials tbat no cruelty woo d bi inflio'ed upon the bidger, and finally got their oensent to remain and see one round of tbs fight* at least, sod they oooli then stop it if they thought neoessary. The

one nund that ended the fight, is thus described by the Herald: In the meantime, over st Harrington’s livery barn, arrangements were beiug made to bring on the fi*ht__ A barrel w*s secured, the .“badge?,” with a. rope tied to him w s phoed a ider it and then weighted duwi with a heavy stone and all was proaounoed ready, A good crowd bad oo'leoted, suckers and otfieis who bad been initiated while two savags dogs, held in lea b, were on eitner side of the barrel awaiting the release of the Texas importation. When the stone was removed from the barrel it became necessary for some one t > bold the rope so that the badger couldn’t escape, and as the sheriff

was tbe guest of honor and anxious to inspect the badger at close quarters, he was finally persuaded to bold the rope. Following tbe cry of “all Trudy” ths barrel was thrown baok and when John discovered that he was holding tbe line on a great white “thunder mug” he dropped it like a red-hot poker and made some remarks that 1 wouldn’t sound well in print, and he continued to make them, heart ily seconded by Jake, until they lrf u for home, whioh they did as soon as their lig was brought around. Advised to go home and get even by working the rack-it on their fellow townsmen, they replied with lofty scorn that ilny wonld not stoop to work snob a dirty trick on any white man. The Goodlacd stickers were not long in hiding.
