St. Dunstan and the Devil.

One of the most famous smiths of the Weald was St Dunstan, archbisbep of Canterbury. Mayfield. In Sussex, Is tbe site of an ancient archieplacopal palace, and here, according to some, took place the terrific encounter between Bt. Dunstan and the devil. At any rate, the anvil, hammer and tongs which arc alleged to have belonged to tbs aalnf are still preserved at Maylleld palace—Gentleman's Magasine.
