Parker is growing wilder ae election day approaches. He now says the Philippines have cost the United States $1,200,000,000. Secretary of Was Taft, who was governor general of the Philippines, officially puts the total cost, inolnding purchase money, at $lB9, 000,000. The qiestion naturally arises: Is Parker either safe or sane when he oan joggle figures in such an amazing way?
Judge Parker says he is in favor of the Panama canal, but opposed to the methods by which its construction was secured. Whioh is about equiveient to the position of a man who said he favored a certain law but was opposed to its enforcement. No method that a Republican administration oonld have adopted would have met his approval. The only method ever pursued by the Democratic party was one of trifling and delay.
