Clement, a Native of Jasper County Takes Carbolic Acid At Shelby. ■... - • t John William Olemena, a resident of Shelby, 20 miles north of Rensselaer committed snioide Tuesday, under very distressing oirenmatanoee. He bought two onnoeo of oarbolio acid of Dr. Petry (and told his mother he would drink it in the presence of bis wife, be went to Mrs. Warner’s restaurant, at the otoemng of the Monon and Three I roads, procured a teacup, poured tbe acid in it and swallowed a large pertion, in sight of his wife and Mrs. Warner. He took the poison about noon and waa dead in lees than an boar. He would have been 38 years old this month, and leaves a wife fonr children ranging from four to 13 years old. He waa a aon of Squire JohnJß. Clemens, now of Bbelby, bat for many years a greatly respeoted resident of Barkley, and Newton townships, this county; and this aon waa born and raised in this oonniy. The young manhad been excessively addicted tcedrink, ever sinoe he was a young man, and oonid not or won Id not free himself from it. To tbi»'hsbit-ht»aet'of suicide is attributed.
