HUNTERS LAW MUDDLED.
It appears that Rev* Z. T. Sweeney has put a misleading construction on the game law of this state. His warning says that hunters who wish to keep out of trouble will find that it is a violation of the law to be in the fields with a dog and shot gun after October 1 without a license. The Ft. Wayne Journal Gazette says of Agent Sweeney's warning, that to be guilty of violation of the law the hunter must carry a shot gun, and be accompanied by a dog. If you have the gun and not the dog, then no license is necessary. If you have the dog and not the gun, the deputies won’t get you. If you have a rifle and not a shot gun you cannot be punished. And the license that you pay a dollar for only expressly permits you to shoot waterfowl. The law was created for the purpose of saving game fowls.
