JASPER COUNTY ON THE HOG.
Jasper County is “right on the hog,” when it comes to hogs, or at least the premiums on hogs, as witness the way our hog men hogged the prizes at the Indiana State Fair. A party who has been looking the matter up says that Jasper county swine exhibitors took one more ribbon at the fair in the Poland China department than all the rest of the state combined. Which is a most remarkable success for a fact. Of course Remington is the great hog center of the county, and some mention has already been made of the many ribons won by their various herds. The Rensselaer flrm of Smith, Harmon & Co-, also had excellent success, and won a whole bunch of ribbons, with their Poland-China herds. Their greatest triumph was with their great yearling boar, Rensselaer Perfection, who won Ist championship at the Wisconsin state fair. At Indianapolis he won Ist prise in a contest with 15 others, representing the best herds of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. Other premiums won by them were: 2nd on aged herd. 3rd on sow under 1 year. 3rd on sow under 6 months. 3rd on pair pigs under 6 months3rd on 5 pigs, any got or size. 3rd on boar under 6 months,
