OBITUARY.
Laac V. Alicr was born in , Western Pen u*y I van’s September ,17th, 1826. He passed away at the age of 7N jean and one day. i He was toe s-o nd eon of John 'and Cnaiity Alter, In 1834 be | came with the family to Greenfield Indiana. In 1836 his mother died leaving bis father Rev. John Alter with a family of 8 small children to care for In 1841 they removed to Howard Countv. In 1847 Isaac Alter with three of his brothers came to Jasper county and settled near the center of Carpenter Township, where they suffered all the rigors of pioneer life.
On Christmas day 1851 he married Elizt Willet. The result of this union was 5 sons and one daughter, of whom 4 sons still live to mourn his loss and profit by his example, txo brothers and a sister also survive him In 1883 he lost his oompmion by death since which he has lived with bis children and devoted his life and energy to the cause of Christ. He has kept the wheels of the Christian Chariot moving at Bose Bud for over a third of a century. He was so much interested in the promotion of God’s work at this plaoe tithe last that he left his prayer, his blessing, his best wishes and a little money oesides. He has b en a good consistent Cnristian, a clever neighbor and a true friend to the friendless, No man needing food or lodging was ever turned from his door. He haj furnished work at fair wages to hundreds of men in this county. His hand was never closed against those who asked bread from the old mill nn the Ircquois. He told us he was going home to reap the reward of his labor io life and earnestly begged that all bis relatives friends and neighbors follows him to that evergreen shore where angel messengers from .Jesus stand wai iog the faithful to come. Only four before his death he composed and dictated the following poem: LAST LINES BY FATHER ISAAC AtER. Dear neighbors friends and children, With whom I often pray, Please watch each changing feature, As my last breath dies away, Angels will make them smiling, As they bid me come and see, That glorious heavenly mansion That Jesus made for me, Its roof is palms of victory. Its doors of tarnished gold, Its choir’s are always singing, We love the faithful old, Who through much tribulation, Have kept the narrow road, And by the blessed scriptures Have found their way to God, Dear friends left none deceive you, But feel that power within Which gives the full assarance, That your freed from every sin.
We the relatives of the deceased Isaao V. Alter wish to offer our most sincere thanks to the many friends who have assisted us iu many wajs during the long days of sickness and suffering of our dear friend and for the consolation and advioe which has been tendered in the hours when grief and sorrow weighed heavily upon unjust think a good White Cedar shingle at 51.75 at the MoOoysburg lumber yard.
